You can flip that for like a bunch of profit if you make it run correctly.

That profit depends on making it run for less than the price of a new BMW. That is a dicey proposition unless you know how to diagnose BMWs well.

Even if you bring it to a BMW mechanic and have him fix it, you can still make money off of it.

Depends on how bad the problems are. If the engine won't even turn over, I'd buy it to part out. Hook up a good battery and test all the motors and seats and whatnot. Otherwise it's still not a good idea. In *good* condition those cars aren't much more than 5-6 grand right now. Keep in mind that also in the metro area, this is 6000 - http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/442299…

And this is 3500 - http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/443441…

So again, you have to get that car running well for about 2-3 grand to get some money out of it. And as I am restoring my own old german car, that doesn't get you too far unless you do the work yourself.

Damn, you really showed me. I assume parting it out will get you something, no?

Hmm, you're right. What if you took it to someone else's house or stored it somewhere other than your house?

Oh yeah. Like I said, if the problems are so bad the engine doesn't want to turn over (checking that the starter and battery are good obviously) then parting it out will get you your money back and probably a grand or so due to how nice the body looks. Most 5 series have rust if they're north of the mason dixon line. Even the shell could be sold for a couple hundred to someone who wants to make a project out of it. Seats, electric motors, interior carpets, all go for 50-100$ each real fast on ebay or forums. You could probably get a ltitle more if you're willing to wait.

when it comes to BMWs, you either get a cheap entry price or cheap maintenance costs. Never both.

Curious, possibly a diamond in the rough or a POS. Call and ask about it.

NP, Shipping would probably bite you in the ass though. Then again, it might be a price error and $2,500. That happens a lot.

Hot damn, I have the same year!

I'd buy it for parts alone. Even at $250 plus a tow you should come out ahead. If it is as the badge claims (525i) it has the the same engine that was used in the E36 325i, so plenty of customers are out there. If one of the "issues" isn't "missing engine."
